There’s a trend going around on social media right now: A one-decade flashback to 2016. While I believe in being present, I also think there’s value in looking back on our memories, and thinking back to 2016 myself, I realized that it was my very first full year working with photography clients.
When I first started out, I was booking lots of mini sessions and delivering lots of digital images. What stands out the most when I look back to the beginning of my business is that even then my clients were asking for artwork and printed portraits.
2016 taught me what was missing from my business, and it shaped the photographer I wanted to become. And that lesson is why I photograph families with a very specific end goal in mind: To create beautiful portraits for your family and your home.
What I’m Loving Right Now
As always, I love creating beautiful artwork for my clients. If you peeked at my Instagram last week, you may have noticed a beautiful maternity image I shared. While it looks great on social media, it looks even better in my mind’s eye as I picture this image hanging on her wall as a large acrylic portrait.

This is one of the greatest pleasures of my work. I love envisioning and being able to see the finished piece. Creating artwork for you, and seeing it beautifully displayed in your home, is the best part of my job. It still feels like Christmas every time I wrap a gorgeous album or framed print to send to its new home.
Remember…
Portrait photography is not just about ‘taking pictures’ or sharing them on social media. It’s about printing your pictures. Putting them into a tangible form so that you can display them in your home and share the story of your family. And of course, so that no matter what happens in the digital world, you can pass these memories down to your babies…and their babies.

How to Display Your Artwork and Printed Portraits
Here’s what I’m currently booking and just an idea or two about how you might display the photos from these sessions:
Modest and Beautiful Boudoir Portraits – These would be perfect in your master bedroom suite or little black book.
Spring Family Sessions – I love picturing an image from your session as a beautiful wall portrait hanging over the fireplace. Or what about a matted print or keepsake album?
High School Seniors – These are ideal for graduation announcements, of course, but they also make lovely keepsake albums and framed portraits.
Maternity and Newborn – The possibilities are endless! A beautiful album, framed newborn portraits, birth announcements, grandparent gifts…there are so many ways to display and share these images.

Ready to Book?
If one of these sessions has been on your heart, please reach out and let me know what you’re are interested in and how I can help. I will personally walk you through every detail and help you decide on the best fit for you and your family. From outfits, to hair and makeup, to location, I’m here to help turn your memories into artwork and printed portraits that will outlast any Instagram trend and allow you to revisit life’s sweetest moments any time you want.
I can’t wait for your session!
Lots of Love,
Shannon
