Facebook Ads for Photographers: A Simple Funnel That Books

Recently, I was invited to host a live Zoom training inside Lola Melani’s course, and it was such a fun conversation.
We talked about Facebook ads, what’s actually working right now, what’s not, and how to use them in a way that feels simple and aligned with the kind of business you want to build.
Because I know this is something so many photographers feel stuck on.
Either you’re not running ads at all or you’ve tried them and felt like they didn’t work.
And most of the time, it’s not that ads don’t work.
It’s that there isn’t a clear strategy behind them yet.
So I want to show you how I approach ads in my own business and how you can start using them to bring in better, more aligned clients.
Facebook Ads Should Fit Your Business
One of the biggest things we talked about on the call was this.
There isn’t just one way to run ads.
Some photographers are starting conversations and booking right away.
>Some are using email funnels.
>Some are promoting minis or seasonal sessions.
And then there are photographers like me who focus more on building trust first.
None of those are wrong.
What matters is that your ads match your pricing, your experience, your ideal client, and the way you want to run your business.
How I Use Ads in My Studio
In my studio, I photograph maternity, newborn, and family sessions.
And over the years, I’ve learned this.
If you want a consistent, profitable business, you need a consistent way to meet new people.
Especially with babies. Your clients are not coming back every month, so you always need new leads.
This is where ads come in for me.
But I don’t use ads to immediately sell a session.
I use them to start a relationship.
The Simple Funnel I Use
At the beginning, people don’t know you.
They’re scrolling.
So instead of asking them to book right away, I give them something helpful, usually a guide.
Something that makes them pause for a second and think, I like her.
That is the first step.
Once they click or download something, everything starts working together.
They start seeing my emails.
Then they notice my ads again.
And over time, they spend more time on my website.
Little by little, they start to recognize my work and my brand.
And eventually, they’re ready.
They’re not asking how much it is.
They’re asking how to book.
Why I Don’t Send People Straight to Book Now
This is especially important if you are not a budget photographer.
If you send someone who has never heard of you straight to your contact form, you are going to get people who do not understand what you do yet.
They have not seen enough.
>They do not know your process.
>They do not understand the value.
So of course they question the price.
Instead, I let them get to know me first, and that makes a big difference.
And that changes everything.
My Go-To Strategy
Most of my ads lead to a very simple landing page where someone can download a guide.
Nothing complicated.
No extra buttons.
No distractions.
Just one clear next step.
Because I do not need them to book right away.
I just need them to take the first step.
What Happens Next Is What Actually Works
This is where most photographers stop, but this is where ads actually start working.
After someone opts in, they hear from me, they keep seeing my work, and they start to feel familiar with my brand.
Over time, it naturally shifts from never hearing of me to feeling like they already know me.
That is when they book.
A Few Things I Keep in Mind
Start small. You do not need a big budget to make this work.
Keep it simple. One goal per ad is enough.
Do not overthink targeting. Broad is working really well right now.
And remember, your ads are not what close the sale. Your brand, your work, and your experience do that.
Final Thoughts
If ads have ever felt overwhelming, I want you to know this.
They do not have to be complicated.
You do not need a massive funnel or a big strategy.
You just need a clear next step, a way to build trust, and consistency.
Because the photographers who are booking consistently are not just running ads.
They are guiding people through a process.
