I’m a big believer in self-care for moms all year round! But the holidays can be a particularly busy time–and one in which it’s easy for moms to put their own needs on the back burner. If you’re feeling stressed by the demands of kiddos and festivities, try one of these holiday self-care ideas for moms.

Meet Your Basic Needs

It seems obvious, but with everything going on it can be tough to remember that your body needs sleep, healthy food, and plenty of water. Take time to sit down for a healthy snack when your kids do, allow yourself an early bedtime or a nap, and stay hydrated! Simple steps like this really will make a world of difference in your ability to have fun and enjoy the holidays with your family.

Create a Cozy Space

When you’re raising kids, you spend a lot of time surrounded by toys and piles of homework. And sometimes, you just need a space that’s all your own. It’s okay to set aside a room or even just a corner as your special place that’s off-limits to the kiddos. Make it somewhere cozy and inviting, where you can go to relax and unwind for a few minutes whenever you need it.

Schedule Me Time

It may not happen over the holidays, but even having some scheduled me time to look forward to sometime in the new year can be a huge mood booster. It can be as a big as a weekend away, or as simple as a couple of hours when the kids are in school to curl up with a book or your favorite movie.

Enjoy Some Grownup Conversation

Every mom has been there! You love your babies, but sometimes you need some non-baby talk. Set up a get-together with friends, or simply find a stimulating podcast to listen to or blog to follow. Grownup ideas that provide some mental stimulation and food for thought may be just the kind of holiday self-care for moms that you need.

Get Yourself a Holiday Treat

You’ve probably spent lots of time making sure everyone else in the family has a special gift or treat for Christmas. What about you? What would make the holiday season feel just a little bit magical for you? A new book? A nighttime drive to look at the lights? A pedicure? Choose at least one thing you can do to be your own Santa Claus this year!
