Last week I shared a sample gallery of an outdoor Houston family session featuring a couple with young children. But family portraits are just as important as your little ones grow up and get ready to leave the nest. If your children are older, your session might look something more like this:

Typically you can expect to get these types of photographs:

Family Group Posed

Everyone needs that classic family photo that you can hang over the mantelpiece or share in your holiday newsletter. I like to get a variety of poses rather than just one, and we’ll experiment with different angles and distances. There are so many ways to do posed family portraits!

Family Group Candid

It can actually be more difficult to capture candid images with older children. They’re at the age where they know what a portrait session is and what they’re supposed to do—smile for the camera, right? But I always try to build in breaks where family can just talk and laugh together. And my camera and I will be right there to capture those natural, unforced images as they unfold.

Sibling Portraits

Whenever there are multiple children in the family, I like to do some sibling portraits. Siblings often provide some of the strongest and most long-lasting relationships in our lives, and that sweet relationship deserves to be captured.

One-on-One

There is nothing to equal that parent-child bond, so during your session, we’ll also capture images of each child and their parent(s) one-on-one. These make for some of the most beautiful portraits and are so very meaningful.

Couples Portraits

As the founders of this beautiful family, you and your spouse deserve couples images that tell the story of your love and special relationship. I love creating these images that say so much about your shared life and memories.

Individual Portraits

Yes, this is a family session, but I think it’s important to photograph each individual separately during this time. Every person is irreplaceable and adds so much to the family dynamic!

Things to Consider for Your Houston Family Session

From choosing the perfect outdoor location to helping you pull together a flattering wardrobe for the whole family, I’m here to make every step of the process simple, memorable, and completely customized. I provide outfit options at the studio that you are welcome to choose from, or I can help you select your own. Hair and makeup services are offered right here at the studio, and I have lots of resources on my family photography page if you’d like to explore more.

With every session, my goal is to create custom artwork for you to treasure and pass down to your babies…and their babies. After your photography session, we’ll get together for your design appointment, where you’ll choose your favorite images to transform into beautiful printed artwork and keepsake albums for you and your family to cherish.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out any time. I can’t wait for your session!

Lots of Love,

Shannon
