“Our experience with Shannon was wonderful! I remember being anxious leading up to my delivery, and her communication and flexibility totally put my mind at ease. She was so patient and helpful during our shoot and at the end of out session I truly felt like she had captured images we would cherish forever. Our photos were absolutely outstanding and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a newborn or family photographer. ” – The Craft Family

The links below will take you through a list of helpful ideas, including what to wear, when to have your session, and tips about hiring a professional photographer. As always, you are welcome to email Shannon with any questions along the way. Your session will be customized just for you and your family.

Why You Should Take Maternity Photos

Maternity sessions are beautiful, natural, and were created to make this special time in your life memorable. You will be able to look back and remember what your baby bump looked like, and how beautiful that “glow” really was. It doesn’t matter if this is your first baby, or your 4th baby, we will create a memory for you that is special for your entire family. Your children will grow up and look back on these images with joy and love.

I recently created a maternity and newborn baby album for a client of mine and it was absolutely perfect. Personally, it made me a little sad that  I missed out on having maternity pictures taken with my children. I wish I had that keepsake for them to look back on. I was like a lot of expecting moms, tired, hot, and felt huge and swollen. But, my mom has a picture of me in her office, when I was pregnant with my second baby, and I love that picture. My kids love to see what I looked like pregnant, and I actually just see the joy, not the swollen feet.

I am done having babies, and I know that I missed my chance on a maternity session, but you don’t have to. Pregnancy is so special, and goes by so fast, I encourage all of my clients to embrace the change in their body and give their children this gift. The love that you have for them before they were even here, it shows, and it’s something they will cherish for the rest of their lives, and so will you. When To Take Maternity Photos

Maternity Sessions are usually booked as early as 15-20 weeks. Shannon typically photographs pregnant mothers when they are between 32-34 weeks. You don’t want to wait too long; especially after 36 weeks, because babies are known to arrive early. Also, pregnancy swelling tends to be more uncomfortable after 35 weeks so most women avoid waiting that long to schedule their session. If you are expecting twins, I recommend your maternity session a little earlier as well. Learn more about When to Take Maternity Photos.

When to plan your session, re-scheduling and due date information.

You are welcome to plan your session as early as 12 weeks.  This allows for  your maternity & newborn dates to be reserved, along with your hair and makeup appointments. In regards to re-scheduling, Shannon only reserves a certain number of sessions per month in order to accommodate all clients. Bad weather does happen from time to time, and we will always find another day to get you in.

Babies sometimes come early, so no need to worry. Shannon will pencil in your newborn session about a week or two after your due date. Depending on if you have a natural birth, or a c-section, we give you as much time as you need to heal and bond with your new baby.

Tips For Cute Maternity Pictures

Your maternity session should match you and your style. If you prefer an at home lifestyle session, Shannon can photograph you and your family getting ready for baby, and then your newborn session will match the same theme. If you love the outdoors, we can photograph you in a beautiful location at sunset. If you love the studio, we can create a beautiful studio maternity& newborn session for you.  You will meet with Shannon before your session, at the photography studio, and this is when you get to plan all of the details.

Maternity Photoshoot Posing & Shannon’s Style

Shannon’s photography typically has a lot of light and always shows the true emotions that each family is experiencing. In a maternity photoshoot, or newborn session, Shannon photographs more of a candid “lifestyle” style, where the session flows natural to you and your family. She won’t force anything that might be uncomfortable or too posed.

Shannon photographs at home lifestyle photography, as well as beautiful, classic portraits. There isn’t standard checklist that she follows during a session, we just let the session unfold naturally to capture the most true and authentic representation of you and your family.

After we decide on the type of session that works best for you, we will talk about what to wear, hair and makeup as well as your vision for your session. Shannon has a simple studio wardrobe line if you need help with maternity dresses as well. After your session, you are welcome to come to your ordering appointment to choose your images; however, most families wait until after their newborn session and place one order all together. This is perfect for creating your album or gallery wall.

The perfect age for a studio newborn photography session is between 5-14 days old. This is when babies are still itty bitty, newborn posing flows seamlessly, and baby will most likely sleep through the entire session.

The Shannon Reece Jones Photography Studio is located across from The Woodlands Mall, on the east side of I-45, off of Robinson Rd. There is plenty of parking and is easy to get to. We are in the same shopping center as Flips Gymnastics & Cho’s Taekwondo.

All meeting and sessions are by appointment only.

Come see the line of fine art samples, as well as newborn props, and maternity photoshoot gowns.

This is where you will have your pre-session meeting as well as your ordering appointment.

Your Ordering Appointment & What to Do with Your Pictures

After your maternity & newborn session, we meet at the studio for your ordering appointment. This is when you design your album and wall art. Most clients choose a keepsake album, wall art, and gifts for grandparents. Each album is custom made for you and your baby. You get to choose the colors, fabrics, and the number of images that you want to display. This is the perfect way to tell your pregnancy story, and to share with your baby as he or she grows. Custom framing, as well as museum quality gallery wrapped canvas, are favorites for wall art along with our handmade wood photoblocks. You will see everything at the studio when you meet with Shannon at your pre-session consultation as well as your ordering appointment. Grandparents are welcome to attend as well. Most grandparents choose a wall piece, and a mini album, also known as a “brag book.”
