Houston Newborn Baby Photographer | Shannon Reece Jones

I remember being a new mom and not knowing what to put in my hospital bag. I printed off lists from a few different places and made sure I had everything. My bag looked like I was going on a week long vacation. I even packed chapstick because the list told me to, and I hate chapstick. I never wore it. By baby number 3, I’m pretty sure I didn’t pack my bag until the last day, and I just threw in a few things that came to mind. One thing to remember is that usually your husband, mother and family are all there visiting. They can always run home and grab something you forgot it, so don’t stress. I have created a little list that I hope helps when packing your hospital bag.

What to Pack

For You & Baby

Once your baby is born, and you get out of your hospital gown, you are going to want to take a shower (eventually) and put on a soft shirt for your sweet new baby to lay on.

A nursing tank top is perfect because you can add a robe over it at night time and a little kimono over it when you have guests.

You don’t need much for your baby, as the hospital will give you everything you need. They supply hats, blankets, pacifiers, you you supply the food. So the only thing you really need for the baby is their going home outfit and a carseat.

Your Hospital Bag

1 – A Nursing Tank Top

2 – A Robe

3 – A Kimono

4 – Soft Maternity Pants or Pajama Pants

Next, you will want something to wear home. Don’t forget…

5 – A Dress

Something soft that is each to just trow on and now worry about is best. A maternity dress or sundress will work.

A few other things:

6 – Panties (think soft, not pretty)

7 – A Nursing Bra

8 – Socks

9 – Flip Flops or Slippers (for waking around the hospital)

10 – Toothbrush & Toothpaste

11 -Brush

12 – Hairdryer

13 – Travel Shampoo and Conditioner (some hospitals may have this)

14 – A Bar of Dove Sensitive Soap

15 – Makeup if you are getting any pictures taken (Fresh 48 Session)

Technology

16 – Cell Phone & Charger

17 – Your Purse with all of your Medical and Insurance Cards

For Baby

18 – A going home outfit for baby

19 – The Carseat (with the base already installed)

20 – A Nursing Cover.

This is great for when guests come to visit and you are nursing your baby. This will be your new accessory when going out in public as well.

I hope all of this helps!
