Professional photos for your business are a must–but even after you’ve decided to invest in a professional branding photoshoot there are more decisions to make. Like, “What am I supposed to wear?” The answer will depend on the business you’re in, whether you’re doing personal or business branding, and how you want to use your photos. And when you book a session with Shannon Reece Jones Photography, you’ll have my guidance in a pre-session consultation where we can discuss all the details. But if you’re like me and you like to plan everything out ahead of time, here are some things to keep in mind while you gather ideas.

Personal Branding Photoshoot

If you’re a social media influencer or blogger, personal branding is a must! If you’re opting for a personal branding photoshoot, make sure that what you wear reflects your sense of style. Do you love boho dresses? Are you into bright colors or do you prefer muted shades and neutrals? Already having an idea of what you love and what message you want to send will help us narrow down the perfect outfits.

Business Branding Photoshoot

For business branding, your personal style is still important. But it takes a backseat to your business style. What type of business are you in? What message do you want to convey to potential clients? Questions like these can help you determine if you should be in a full suit and tie or if you’d be better off with something more casual. Even if conducting your daily business doesn’t require a formal business suit, you want to give a professional vibe. We can talk about exactly what to wear during our pre-session consultation, so bring your questions and outfit ideas!

Colors

As a rule, solids tend to be a safe bet. I’d advise steering clear of busy patterns or large, distracting stripes and prints. But if you have a dress or blouse with a bold pattern that you absolutely love, let’s talk about it! We may be able to tone it down with a solid-colored jacket or make other adjustments to make it work. Neutral and muted colors are in right now, so basics like black, white, gray, beige, and navy are all great choices, as are muted shades of just about any other colors. However, knowing your business or mission and sense of style is key. For example, if you’re an artist, rich colors could be perfect for showing off your creativity.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories, simple tends to be best. One or two accessories that work well with your sense of style, your chosen outfits, and the image you want to convey is usually great. A pair of earrings and a bracelet for example, or a watch and ring. Remember, while accessories are fun, they’re really just there in a supporting role, not the star of the show. (That’s you!)

Ultimately your branding photoshoot is about you and your business, not your outfit, so don’t stress about it too much. Plus, I’m here to guide you every step of the way, and what to wear for your branding photoshoot is one of the things we’ll discuss to make sure you have the kind of session that’s exactly right for you and your business.
