There is so much to think about when you’re expecting, and I know that sometimes planning your photo session can feel overwhelming. The very first thing to think about though, is when to plan your maternity or newborn session. (Hint: It’s probably earlier than you think!)
When to Plan your Maternity Session
Ideally, your photographer should be one of the first people to find out that you’re pregnant. I often know clients are expecting before their friends and family do! This is simply because my schedule books out well in advance, and I only take a limited number of sessions each month so that I can give every client the personalized attention they deserve.
I also want you to experience your maternity session at the ideal point in your pregnancy. This is usually around 30 weeks, when your beautiful bump is nice and big and you still feel comfortable enough to enjoy all the pampering and fun of a maternity session!
When to Plan Your Newborn Session
Scheduling early holds true for newborn sessions too. Even if you choose not to do a maternity session, still let me know as soon as you’re pregnant, and we can start planning for baby!
I usually like to pencil you in on my schedule about 12-14 days after your due date. Don’t worry if baby comes a bit early. They like to surprise us sometimes! This is another reason I take a limited number of sessions each month: to have some built-in flexibility in my calendar. If your little one decides to put in an appearance early, we’ll simply move you up a week or two.
I hope this information helps you with the logistics of when to plan your maternity or newborn session! If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to chat with you! You can also learn more on my maternity photography page or newborn photography page.
Lots of Love,
Shannon
