As a Houston, Texas photographer, one of the things I love most about photography is the way it tells a story. I remember visiting my grandparents’ house as a little girl and being fascinated by all the family pictures on the walls. I knew that when I grew up, I wanted my home to tell a story too. And I love giving other families that same gift through my work! Every mama deserves to have beautiful pictures of her family’s story to grace the walls of her home, pass down as heirlooms to her babies, and flip through in a pretty album.
Fun and Free Outdoor Storytimes for Kids in Houston
Stories are powerful, and they have a way of bringing people together. Which is why today, I wanted to share a few fun and free outdoor storytimes for kids in Houston! I hope one of these sounds perfect to you and can serve as a way to help you build memories with your little ones and enjoy the summer!
Levy Park Family Storytime
3801 Eastside Street, Houston, TX 77098
Tuesdays at 10 am all the way through August. This fun storytime group meets under the pavilion at the Levy Park Conservancy. After the reading, you’ll get to enjoy a craft tutorial. All the craft supplies are provided, and this is such a nice way to spend the morning with your littles, enjoying a story and doing something creative. And of course, there’s always the Children’s Park right next to the pavilion so the kiddos can work out their wiggles before or after storytime.
Storytime at the Nature Discovery Center
7112 Newcastle, Bellaire, TX 77401
Their fun and free outdoor storytimes for kids in Houston take place in the Pavilion area on Wednesdays at 4 pm. But you can enjoy this event year-round: they just move it into the Classroom when the weather gets cold! If your little ones enjoy nature, they will love this storytime, which includes a nature story and usually has some hands-on activity in the form of looking at natural history specimens or interacting with animals.
Storytime in the Garden
One Botanic Lane, Houston, TX 77017
Another year-round storytime, this one takes place at 10:30 am on the third Friday of each month at the Houston Botanic Garden. This event is free, but registration is required. Be sure to check out the Houston Botanic Garden’s Nature Camps for kids and other fun summer programs too!
Storytime on the Terrace
888 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77006
Through July, take your little ones for a fun storytelling experience on Fridays at 10:30 at the Montrose Collective. Storytimes take place on the Terrace (2nd floor). You will need to RSVP on their website.
