Healthy Summer Drinks to Keep Energy & Mood Up!

I met sweet Amy with Gluten Free Glam Girl  a few years ago. Our little ones go to school together and we have a mutual friend as well. I thought she was super cool when I first saw her (um, that nose ring!) and then I learned more about her website and small business. Gluten Free Glam Girl, Amy and her family are gluten free due to health related issues, and she does such a great job of taking care of her family as well as helping others with gluten issues as well.

Amy’s Blog

Amy recently wrote a blog post titled “Healthy Summer Drinks to Keep Energy & Mood Up” (READ IT HERE!)  and I am going to post her recipe for her CHOCOLATE PROTEIN SHAKE!!  Yum!

  • Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • First, 2T Cocoa Powder
  • Second, 2T Egg White Protein Powder
  • Next, 2T Truvia
  • 1/4 tsp Psyllium Husk Powder
  • Pinch Himalayan Sea Salt

Gluten Free Glam Girl wrote, “I love this drink because it is all REAL food, no long list of ingredients that you can’t pronounce and don’t really know what they are. No chalkiness like a lot of protein powders. NO sugar! So no sugar crash or igniting the sugar beast that will just crave more. The psyllium husk powder thickens it up a bit, and the himalayan sea salt adds a little richness.

There are also so many ways to get creative with it, add in PB2 powder or peanut butter for a Reece’s taste, coconut milk ILO almond milk for a choco-coconut flavor, add frozen strawberries for a chocolate covered strawberry shake, or if you ever are chocolated-out… rarely ever happens in my world… leave out the cocoa powder for a vanilla shake.”

smoothieShe also shared a recipe for the Thai Iced Madeover!!!

  • Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • Thai Tea (2 bags) seeped into a small coffee cup of hot water
  • 2T Truvia
  • 2T Egg White Protein Powder (optional)

Amy says, “Serve over ice, and this one always makes me feel like I am cheating and getting a delicious afternoon treat chalk full of sugar and all the good stuff, but it isn’t! The caffeine from the tea gives you the pick-me-up and because it tastes like such a treat you get the major mood-booster in this drink!”

And There is More!

Iced Matcha Latte:

  • Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1 tsp Matcha Powder
  • 3T Truvia

Per Amy, “Serve over ice, or almond milk ice cubes. It is said that matcha can sharpen brain function, and add to your health and wellness in a variety of ways. There are powerful antioxidants, polyphenols, caffeine and the sought after amino acid, L-theanine. L-theanine promotes stress relief without drowsiness and is said to have anti-cancer and heart health benefits as well. All of these reasons have made me learn to love this drink. The flavor is strong and takes some getting used to, but with some truvia, and even a creamier milk, like hemp milk or another nut milk it can help you ease into the taste of it.”

Frozen Fruit/Veggie Smoothie:

  • Frozen pineapple, frozen magoes, and a tiny bit of frozen strawberries
  • Spinach, kale and/or beets
  • Vitamin Water Zero Orange Rise

“Tastes like the health-infused version of a frozen tropical drink! Great drink to sip on at the pool, and add a bit of canned coconut milk to get another tropical flavor to it. The Vitamin Water Zero is the secret ingredient that adds so much flavor and sweetness without a drop of sugar! Word of warning… if you are prone to acid-reflux/ heartburn don’t have this one on the daily!” – Amy Keene
